Trading Rules
Zunafish users depend on one another to keep this website a fun and safe place to trade their stuff. With that in mind, here's an overview of the rules for everyone to live by. These topics and the other rules that govern use of the site are covered more fully in your User Agreement
A Trade is a Contract
Once you agree to a trade, you enter into a binding contract with your trading partner. Do not agree to a trade unless you are certain that you will fulfill it. Zunafish recommends not posting anything on the site that you're not certain you'd like to trade away for something new.
Eligibility to Trade
Because agreements to trade are binding contracts, you need to be 18 years of age or older to register on the site. If you are under 18 and would like to trade your stuff on Zunafish, you need to use the site in conjunction with your parent or legal guardian.
Trading Like Items
Trading on Zunafish is like-item for like-item: CDs can be traded only for other CDs, DVDs for DVDs etc. This means you can only request a DVD from the system if you've posted at least one DVD of your own under "Stuff I've Posted." If, for example, you find and select a DVD from the master list of available items but have no DVDs in your collection, you'll receive a message indicating you don't have an item to trade in this category and that you should choose another type of item or visit the "Post More Stuff" page to post a DVD.
Region 1 DVDs Only
DVDs created for use outside the U.S. and Canada are formatted to a different technical standard, and are usually unviewable on U.S. DVD players. For this reason, you may only trade a DVD if it's "Region 1," the standard used for North American DVDs. Items commercially produced and sold in the U.S. and Canada will present no problems.
The Trading Fee
Posting your stuff on the site is free. The one-dollar per trade fee will only be charged to your account after you complete a trade on the site.
Piracy Not Permitted
On Zunafish, you can only trade items which have been manufactured and sold commercially, not things you created yourself through, for example, digital copying, or which otherwise infringe someone's rights. This policy helps ensure the items you'll receive in trade will be of uniform quality - not homemade copies. It also keeps Zunafish from becoming a marketplace for pirated goods, which is contrary to the principles of our trading community.
No Pornography
Pornography is not permitted on Zunafish and our database matching system is designed to prevent trading in pornographic titles.
Prompt Mailing
When your trade is complete, you are expected to mail the item you've traded within three days. If you drag your feet in mailing, you run the risk of getting negative feedback from the person you're trading with.
Zunafish strongly recommends that you pre-purchase stamps and envelopes before you engage in trading, so you'll be ready to fulfill trades right away.
Shipping Your Item
When you finish a trade, you'll see a pre-printed address label that you can simply cut out and tape to your package.
And in almost all cases, you'll also be told exactly how much it costs to mail your item to its destination, using the U.S. Mail.
So here's all you have to do:
- Just find or buy a padded envelope large enough to contain your item. (Zunafish recommends size #02.)
- Print and affix the address label that appears on the "How to Complete Your Trade Page."
- Affix the postage the site tells you to use.
- The package is ready to send!
If the site doesn't know how much it will cost to mail your item (a rarity), you'll be told that, too. In that case, you'll have to weigh your item at the post office or on a home postal scale.
Condition of Items
While the vast majority of items traded on Zunafish have been used by their previous owners, they must still be in good working condition. When listing materials for trading, members are asked to rate the condition of the items on a three-category scale ranging from "Excellent" to "Acceptable." Providing an honest description makes trading on Zunafish a satisfying experience for everyone and gets you good feedback from your trading partners. For more information, visit Guidelines on Item Condition.
Use of Other's Personal Information
Once a trade is agreed upon, trading partners are provided with each other's names, e-mail addresses and mailing addresses. This information is provided so that the trade can be completed, i.e., so that media items can be mailed to each partner, and so that you can use e-mail to check with each other on the mailing status of your items. In order to protect members' privacy, there are a few rules regarding the contacting of a trading partner for any other reason. See your User Agreement for more information. If you think another user has violated these rules with respect to your personal information, please contact Zunafish.
Changing Your Screen Name
Because your record as a trader is so important to other members, users aren't allowed to change or transfer their screen names. Allowing name changes would make it much easier for an unscrupulous person to evade a bad trading record and take advantage of people. So choose a screen name use you're pleased with—it's yours for your entire Zunafish life.
Your Account and Password
You need to keep your Zunafish account password confidential because you are responsible for any trading that takes place under your screen name. Account passwords can be changed at any time by visiting My Account and updating the password section.
Feedback
When it comes to a business transaction, we all like to work with people we trust, who have a record of fair dealing. That's why Zunafish lets members leave feedback about their trading experiences with others. And we let you decide who you feel comfortable trading with, based on their trading histories. The user rating system tells you how members have performed in past transactions, based on the feedback left by their past trading partners.
When looking at a member's user rating, you should keep in mind that disagreements can arise between users and that a single piece of negative feedback, or very few in an otherwise positive trading history, shouldn't necessarily mark the user as a bad bet to trade with. In addition, we recommend that you also read any comments left about a member by former trading partners, which can give more information.
Because a member's rating is so important, you are asked to use common sense and good judgment when leaving feedback for another member of the Zunafish community. Specifically, keep in mind that you cannot go back and edit feedback that you have already left, and the feedback you leave will become a permanent part of a member's user rating. You also want to avoid making comments that could be libelous or defamatory. Learn more by reviewing the Feedback Policy.
Settling Disputes
In the rare event that a dispute arises between members, the best idea is to try to work it out privately through e-mail before leaving feedback. If, for example, you receive an item that's in worse condition than described, you might want to e-mail your trading partner before doing anything else. You can say you're dissatisfied and perhaps that you'd like your original item returned, possibly with your dollar fee and the cost of four stamps included. If the other member agrees, you might consider holding back on giving that person negative feedback. Usually the possibility of negative feedback, which can harm a member's ability to trade, is enough to bring about a resolution.
If you can't remedy the situation, you are free to leave negative feedback - including any brief comments you wish to add - on the "My Completed Trades" page.
Zunafish provides a community where users can trade and leave feedback, but the site is not actually involved in users' transactions. For this reason, and under the terms of the User Agreement, we don't play a role in mediating user disputes.
Suspension
The Zunafish trading community is full of users just like you, who behave responsibly with their trading partners. However, as in any community, there are always a few bad apples. Under the User Agreement, Zunafish may warn or suspend a user if they breach any part of the User Agreement, including by defrauding other members.
